What to tell her when she opens it
Tell her it is a lotus from the palaces of the old imperial capital in Hanoi, and that it stands for staying yourself when life is hard.
In Thang Long, from the 11th to the 15th century, lotus petals were carved into the stone bases of the palace columns, so the flower stood beneath the roof itself.

Is it real silk?
It is 100% Grade 5A mulberry silk, 16 momme. The Textile Testing Center of the Vietnam Textile Research Institute tested it. That is an independent lab, not ours.
The box includes a small cutting of the same silk, so you can test it yourself.
Burn a thread over a sink. Silk burns with a smell like burning hair and leaves a soft ash that crushes between your fingers. A synthetic melts into a hard bead. Do this away from anything that can catch, with no children nearby. It is a home check, not lab proof.

If it comes back within 30 days, unused, unwashed and unworn in its box, you can take store credit with 15% added and choose another design.
Is it woven from lotus?
No. The lotus is the printed design. The fabric is 100% Grade 5A mulberry silk.
Behind the $153
Start with the hem, rolled and stitched by hand: close to an hour, even on a small square. Each face is printed separately, one color at a time. The artwork was redrawn by hand from archive sources.
Going from 26 to 36 inches nearly doubles the silk: 676 against 1,296 square inches.
The hand-rolled edge grows from about 8.5 to 12 feet.
It is all made in our Hanoi atelier and shipped direct, with the duty paid by us.
Will it arrive in time?
It leaves Hanoi within 1 to 3 business days and reaches a US address in 9 to 15 business days.
Birthday, anniversary or holiday: allow up to 18 business days, about three and a half weeks.
For Christmas delivery in the US, we recommend ordering by November 27.

Duties: Folk Form pays the US import duty. Nothing is collected at delivery.
Returns: within 30 days, unused, unwashed and unworn, in the original box. For a change of mind, the return postage is yours. Store credit adds 15%.

How to care for it
Wash it after 3 to 5 wears. Use cold water and a little shampoo or body wash.
Squeeze the water out; never wring. Dry it flat in the shade. Iron on the lowest silk setting while slightly damp.
