Why a phoenix for a woman who leads

In Vietnamese temple carving the phoenix is the empress's bird, paired with the emperor's dragon. It was drawn in the flowing Ly style on beam ends, stair flanks and roof corners.

Unusually for a temple motif, it carries no religious weight. It was placed there to say the country was at peace and prospering, and that there was beauty worth noticing.

Our phoenix holds a pearl and moves through cloud. In the old sources its feathers carry five colors, one for each of the five elements.

Is it real silk?

Yes. 100% Grade 5A mulberry silk. It was tested by an outside lab. That lab is the Textile Testing Center, Vietnam Textile Research Institute.

You can check it yourself. A small cutting of the silk is in the box.

Burn a thread or a corner of it over a sink, away from anything flammable, with no children nearby. Silk burns with a smell like burning hair and leaves a soft ash that crushes between your fingers. Polyester melts into a hard bead. It is a home check, not lab proof.

Is a gift to a boss appropriate?

Keep it modest and shared, and it lands well. A silk square from the team says thank you without asking for anything back.

The edge is rolled and sewn by hand. That is close to an hour, even on the smallest square. Both faces go through the press, one after the other. Every color needs its own screen and its own pass. The drawing itself was redone by hand from archive photographs.

Wear the 22 inch weekly for five years. Each wear then costs under 30 cents.

The twilly's edges are rolled by hand too, like the squares.

Everything happens in our own atelier in Hanoi. The parcel comes to you from there, duty paid.

Will it arrive for Boss's Day?

It leaves Hanoi within 1 to 3 business days and reaches a US address in 9 to 15 business days.

Boss's Day is October 16. Allow up to 18 business days, about three and a half weeks.

How to care for it

Wash it after 3 to 5 wears. Use cold water and a little shampoo or body wash.

Squeeze the water out; never wring. Dry it flat in the shade. Iron on the lowest silk setting while slightly damp.
