A phoenix, for who she is
A simple way to choose between our motifs: a dragon for what someone has done, as in the royal blue dragon gift set, and the phoenix for who she is. Giving a phoenix tells her you admire the person as much as the title.
Our studio drew the bird from the temple carving of the Ly and Tran Dynasties in the north of Vietnam, in the gentle, curving manner of the Ly period. Carvers set it on beam ends, stair flanks and roof corners as a sign that the country was at peace and prosperous.
It moves through cloud holding a pearl, and in the source its plumage carries five colors, one for each of the five elements. This was the empress's bird, partner to the emperor's dragon; for the longer story, read what the Phoenix Dance motif means.
Purple is the phoenix color we suggest for a woman in charge: deep and composed, it looks assured against charcoal, navy and black.

Is silk too personal for a boss?

Is it real silk?
Yes, 100% Grade 5A mulberry silk, 16 momme. Tested independently, at the Vietnam Textile Research Institute's Textile Testing Center.
A cutting of the same silk is in the box. Burned over a sink, away from anything flammable, silk smells like burning hair and leaves a soft ash; a synthetic melts into a hard bead. It is a home check, not lab proof.

The handwork in $97
The hem is hand-rolled and hand-stitched, close to an hour on its own.
Each side of the silk is printed in its own run, one screen and one pass per color, from a phoenix our studio redrew from archive photographs. We make it in our Hanoi atelier and ship it to the US with the duty paid.

Boss's Day is October 16. Orders take 1 to 3 business days to leave Hanoi and 9 to 15 business days to arrive.
Count back 18 business days from the date you want to hand it over. If that has passed, a promotion, her work anniversary or the holidays are just as good a reason.
Duties and returns
Duties: Folk Form pays the US import duty.
Returns: 30 days, unused and unwashed, in the original box. Change-of-mind return postage is paid by the buyer; store credit adds 15%.

How to care for it
Every 3 to 5 wears: cold water, a little shampoo.
Laundry detergent is too harsh. No wringing; squeeze gently. Dry in shade. Iron on the silk setting, lowest heat, while still a little damp.
