Sons, this one is for you.
The size, the color and the box are already decided.

Men buying for their mothers worry less about the price than about choosing wrong. So the whole decision is made here: a 26 inch silk square, in yellow, with a Ly Dynasty dragon on it, boxed and ready to send.

The design is Dragon of Grace: small dragons repeated around a center, so the scarf reads as an even, worked surface rather than one big picture. It is 100% Grade 5A mulberry silk, printed by hand on both faces.

We pay the import duty, not you.

Shipping is free at $97. It leaves Hanoi in 1 to 3 business days and reaches her 9 to 15 business days after that.

What Dragon of Grace means

The dragon is the same Ly Dynasty animal from Hanoi's imperial citadel, but here it is small and repeated, set symmetrically around a lotus pedestal with bodhi leaves and carved borders. The Vietnamese name holds the meaning: An is grace that is given, not power that is kept.

That makes it the quieter way to give a dragon. From across a room the pattern reads as texture; up close it turns into dragons.

It also folds well. A repeat still looks complete when a 26 inch square is knotted small, where one large picture would be cut in half.

If you have no idea how she wears scarves

At the neck Folded to a band and knotted once. Over a black sweater, the yellow is the point.

In her hair As a headband or a ponytail wrap.

On her bag Rolled around the handle.

If she keeps to dark colors The navy set is the calmer choice at the same price.

Is the set the same as buying the scarf?

The set is the 26 inch Dragon of Grace square in yellow, in a gift box, at $97. The yellow 26 inch sold on its own is also $97.

The difference is that nothing is left to choose. Either way you get the gift box, story card, styling guide, care card and silk cutting.

Is it real silk?

Yes. 100% Grade 5A mulberry silk, 16 momme. It was tested at the Textile Testing Center, Vietnam Textile Research Institute.

There is a small cutting of silk in the box for testing. Burned over a sink, away from anything flammable, silk smells like burning hair and leaves a soft ash; polyester melts into a hard bead. It is a home check, not lab proof.

ELLE Vietnam and Harper's Bazaar Vietnam have both covered our studio.

Why $97

Someone rolls and stitches the hem by hand, which takes close to an hour.

The silk goes through the press twice, one face at a time, one screen for each color. The pattern was redrawn by our studio from archive photographs. We make it in Hanoi, in our own atelier, and pay the import duty on the way to her.

Will it arrive for Mother's Day?

Mother's Day is the second Sunday of May. Allow 1 to 3 business days to dispatch and 9 to 15 business days to deliver.

Order by mid-April to be safe. The same 18 business days apply to her birthday.

Duties and returns

Duties: we pay them. Your mother will not be asked for anything.

Returns: 30 days, unused and unwashed, in the original box. Return postage for a change of mind is yours. Store credit adds 15%.

Sending it to her

It arrives in the rigid Folk Form box with its matching bag. You do not need to wrap anything.

Your message Write it as you would say it, in Order Notes. We copy it by hand.

The explanation The story card tells her what the dragons mean.

Her address Put it in shipping; yours goes in billing. No price inside.

How to care for it

After 3 to 5 wears, wash it in cold water.

Use shampoo or body wash instead of detergent. Press the water out, do not twist. Let it dry out of the sun. Iron at the lowest silk setting while slightly damp. The care card in the box says the same.
