She unfolds the tissue at her desk, and yellow silk catches the afternoon light.
A thank-you for the mentor who opened a door.

Your note lies on top, saying what a lunch never quite could, and under it the Dragon Of Grace scarf shows a pale gold in the light and a deeper gold in the fold. A mentor gives hours she is never paid for, and this thank-you stays in her closet, and around her shoulders, long after the conversation ends.

Dragon Of Grace in yellow is 100% Grade 5A mulberry silk at 16 momme, with both faces printed by hand and the edges rolled by hand. Choose the size below.

We pay the import duty, not you.

The 26, 36 and 44 inch ship free to the US; the 22 inch ships for a flat $20. Orders leave Hanoi in 1 to 3 business days and arrive 9 to 15 business days later.

Grace given freely, as a mentor gives

The Vietnamese name ends in "Long An", a dragon of grace given freely, which describes a good mentor with quiet precision.

The design repeats one Ly Dynasty dragon, drawn small and set in a ring around a center: the dragon of the imperial citadel in Hanoi. Spread open, the square has the even, carved-looking surface of old relief work, every line picked out in gold.

Each dragon holds a pearl, an image from the Lotus Sutra story in which a dragon offers her pearl to the Buddha. It is wisdom handed on, which is what a mentor does each time she takes your call.

Yellow gives the drawing a soft gold that glows against gray, navy or cream and always looks considered. If she prefers deeper tones, you can see every size of the red Dragon of Grace scarf.

For a mentor we suggest the 26 or the 36. The 26 is plenty; the 36 says she changed things.

Is it real silk?

Yes. 100% Grade 5A mulberry silk. It was tested by an outside lab. That lab is the Textile Testing Center, Vietnam Textile Research Institute.

You can check it yourself. A small cutting of the silk is in the box.

Burn a thread or a corner of it over a sink, away from anything flammable, with no children nearby. Silk burns with a smell like burning hair and leaves a soft ash that crushes between your fingers. Polyester melts into a hard bead. It is a home check, not lab proof.

ELLE Vietnam and Harper's Bazaar Vietnam have both covered our studio.

Is this too personal for a mentor?

A scarf sits comfortably between too little and too much. It says thank you without guessing her size or her taste in scent, and it arrives in its box with your words on the card.

The story card names the motif and its dynasty, so the meaning travels with it.

What goes into $75 to $197

The edge is rolled and sewn by hand. Both faces go through the press, one after the other, and every color needs its own screen and its own pass. The drawing itself is a Ly Dynasty dragon of the Thang Long citadel.

Stepping up from the 26 to the 36 inch gives you nearly twice the silk, 1,296 square inches against 676.

Across that step, the hand-rolled edge grows from about 8.5 to 12 feet.

Everything happens in our own atelier in Hanoi. The parcel comes to you from there, duty paid.

When will she receive it?

Processing takes 1 to 3 business days. Delivery to the US takes 9 to 15 business days after dispatch.

About three and a half weeks at most. For a dated event, allow 18 business days.

Duties and returns

Duties: covered by us. She pays nothing when it arrives.

Returns: 30 days, in the original box, unused, unwashed and unworn. Return postage for a change of mind is paid by you, and store credit comes with an extra 15%.

Others who opened doors

A former manager For the reference that got you hired, sent with a note that finally says thank you properly.

A professor or thesis advisor Send it after graduation, when the grade is safely in and gratitude is all that is left.

A coach who changed your game Knotted at the neck on the day of the big game, the gold is easy to pick out from the sideline.

How it arrives

Every scarf ships in a rigid gift box with its own bag. The silk is folded in tissue. Inside: a story card and a styling guide with more than 20 ties. There is also a care card and a small silk cutting.

Ordering for her? Ship to her address and bill to yours. Leave your note in Order Notes, and we handwrite it on a card. There is no price inside.

How to care for it

Cold water, shampoo or body wash, no detergent. Every 3 to 5 wears is plenty.

Never wring it. Press out the water and dry it flat, out of the sun. Iron it damp on the lowest silk setting.

NEED HELP?

Before you order

When will it arrive?

Every order leaves our Hanoi atelier within 1 to 3 business days. U.S. delivery takes 9 to 15 business days after dispatch, and tracking is emailed the moment it ships. Buying for a date? Email Folkformint@gmail.com right after you order and we will expedite wherever we can.

What does shipping cost? Will I owe import duty?

Shipping is free on orders of $90 or more and a flat $20 below that, shown before you pay. On U.S. orders we pay the import duty, so nothing is owed at your door. If a carrier ever bills you for duty, send us the receipt and we refund it in full.

Which size should I choose?

22 inch: a bag handle, a wrist, a ponytail. 26 inch: a headband, a neck knot, and the easiest first scarf. 36 inch: a full head wrap or a scarf worn loose at the neck. 44 inch: a shoulder wrap for evenings and weddings.

Is it ready to give?

Yes. It arrives in a Folk Form gift box with a story card naming the motif. Sending it straight to the recipient? Add a message at checkout and we write it by hand on a card. There is never a price inside the parcel.

How do I know it is real silk?

It is 100% Grade 5A mulberry silk, 16 momme, tested at the Textile Testing Center of the Vietnam Textile Research Institute. Every box includes a small cutting from the same bolt so you can test it yourself.

Can I return it?

Yes, within 30 days of delivery, unused and unwashed, in its original box. If something is our fault, we pay postage both ways. On U.S. orders under $100 we also offer a gift exchange: if it is not right for her, email Folkformint@gmail.com with your order number and we issue store credit for the full price of the piece, and you do not need to send it back. One gift exchange per order and per household. Otherwise, if you changed your mind you cover return postage, and choosing store credit instead of a refund adds 15%.

How do I care for it?

Silk resists dust, so wash it only every few wears: cold water with a little shampoo or body wash, no wringing, dry flat in the shade, and iron on the lowest silk setting while slightly damp. A care card is in the box.
