Navy is the calm colorway of Dragon Dreams, easy with a wardrobe you do not know well. The set is one 26 inch square of 100% Grade 5A mulberry silk, hand-printed on both faces, with a hand-rolled edge.

What the dragon says, so you do not have to

Her scarf carries the Ly Dynasty dragon from the stonework of Hanoi's imperial citadel, a site begun in 1010. It is a gentle animal by design, with a body that curves like water and a pearl held at the mouth.

On its forehead sits an S-shaped sign, an old way of writing thunder. In a country that grew rice, thunder promised rain, and rain promised a harvest. So this dragon wishes her a good year; it is no threat.

The story card in the box names the motif and its dynasty. When she wears it and someone asks, she has the answer, and you are the one who found it.

What exactly is in the set?

One 26 inch Dragon Dreams square in navy blue, 100% mulberry silk, in a gift box. It costs $97, the same as the 26 inch navy scarf bought on its own.

The box, bag, story card, styling guide, care card and silk cutting are not extras: every Folk Form scarf arrives with them.

Is it real silk?

Yes: 100% Grade 5A mulberry silk, 16 momme. We did not test it ourselves. The Vietnam Textile Research Institute's Textile Testing Center did.

If she wants proof, the silk cutting in the box is for testing. Burned over a sink, away from anything flammable, silk smells like burning hair and leaves a soft ash that crushes between your fingers. It is a home check, not lab proof.

Why $97

Close to an hour of the work is the hem, rolled and stitched by hand.

The silk is printed twice, once for each face, with a separate screen and pass for every color. Before that, our studio redrew the dragon from archive photographs. We make it in our own Hanoi atelier and ship it direct, import duty paid.

Will it arrive in time?

1 to 3 business days to leave Hanoi and 9 to 15 business days to reach her.

For her birthday or Mother's Day, allow up to 18 business days. For Christmas delivery in the US, we recommend ordering by November 27.

Duties and returns

Duties: covered by us, so she is never asked to pay anything at the door.

Returns: 30 days, unused and unwashed, in the original box. Change-of-mind return postage is yours, and store credit adds 15%.

How to care for it

Every 3 to 5 wears: cold water, a little shampoo.

Laundry detergent is too harsh. No wringing; squeeze gently. Dry in shade. Iron on the silk setting, lowest heat, while still a little damp.
