The layer you take
when you can only take one.

Every trip ends at the same decision. What goes on top. Whatever it is has to work on the plane, at dinner and over a coat, or it is not worth the space it takes. Navy is the only color that clears all three without anyone having to think about it.

A 44-inch square, 110 centimeters, of Vietnamese mulberry silk in deep navy, hand screen-printed with a Ly Dynasty dragon taken from eleventh-century stonework in Hanoi. It folds smaller than a paperback and weighs less than a phone.

What a navy wrap actually goes with

Black, in the evening Navy over black is what stops a black dress reading as a uniform after eight o'clock. It is the single most useful thing a wrap can do.

A camel or gray coat Draped inside the collar rather than over the shoulders. This is the layer that does the actual temperature work between October and March.

White and cream in summer The answer to a cold evening on a warm day, and it packs into nothing while you wait for the evening to arrive.

Denim and a t-shirt Thrown on, not arranged. The everyday version, and the reason a wrap this size does not spend its life waiting for an occasion.

Buying a wrap as a gift and unsure about coloring? Navy is the only one that cannot be wrong. It sits against every skin tone and every wardrobe already in the house.

Same size, other colorways: Orange & Dark Green · Green & Yellow · Red · Pink & Turquoise

★★★★★

It is not slippery or flimsy like some others I have tried. It stays in place and feels great on my skin even in warm weather.

A dark ground is the hardest surface to print well

Look at almost any dark scarf on the market and turn it over. The reverse will be pale, because putting a light drawing onto a dark ground takes real opacity, and doing it twice so that both faces match costs more than most producers will spend. Single-sided is the shortcut, and a dark ground is where it hides best.

It is also where it shows worst in use. A wrap folds back on itself constantly, over a shoulder, through a knot, down an arm. Every one of those folds turns a single-sided print inside out in front of the person you are talking to.

Then there is the edge. Close to fifteen feet of it on a 44-inch square, turned twice by hand and closed with a needle. Not overlocked, not glued, not cut with a hot blade. It is the slowest operation in the building, it never gets faster with practice, and it is the first thing anyone who knows silk will check.

Four things it lets you stop doing

A specification means nothing until you can say what changes because of it.

01
Sixteen momme across forty-four inches

Large squares in thin silk have no fall. They float, cling to a sleeve and slide off a shoulder within minutes. Weight is what makes cloth hang, and this has enough to stay across a back through a whole dinner.

You stop reaching back to pull it up.

02
A shawl, not an accessory

Opened out it covers both shoulders and the upper arms. Folded once on the diagonal it is a wrap. This is the layer you carry for a restaurant that overdoes the air conditioning, and the one you put on when the evening turns.

You stop taking a cardigan you do not want to be seen in.

03
Four corners that have to line up

The drawing places one large dragon in each corner, all turning inward. Nothing is tiled, so there is no repeat to hide behind: every screen has to land across the full width of the cloth, and then land again on the reverse so both faces match. A small allover print forgives a slipped millimeter. A composition at this scale shows it at arm's length.

You stop worrying about which side is showing.

04
A dark ground is hard to print and easy to own

Navy carries dust, a splash of coffee and the general wear of a travel layer without any of it becoming a permanent feature, which a cream or a pale ground cannot say. Add a square cut, which has no year in it and no size to grow out of, and there is nothing here that dates.

You stop replacing things that are still perfectly good.

How to know it is real, without taking our word for it

There is a cutting of the same silk folded under the tissue in the box. It is there for one reason: so that testing us costs you nothing.

Mulberry silk Polyester
In your palm Warms in seconds Stays cool, slick
Held to a flame Flares, then dies Melts, keeps going
The smell Singed hair Acrid, like plastic
What is left Gray ash, crumbles Hard bead, sticks

The only houses afraid of this test are the ones selling something else.

If you run it: over a sink, clear of anything that can catch, not with children in the room. A corner is enough.

If setting fire to things is not your idea of an evening, the silk carries independent results from the Textile Testing Center at the Vietnam Textile Research Institute. Their lab, their document.

Why $197

Almost three times the cloth of a 26-inch square, at 1,936 square inches against 676, and close to double the hem. Everything that costs money in a scarf scales with the edge and the area, and neither gets a discount for being bought at once.

The honest comparison is not another scarf. It is the evening wrap you would otherwise buy: a viscose pashmina at $60 that pills within a season, or a wool stole that works four months of the year. This is silk, so it is warm in a cold room and cool on a hot night, and it packs to nothing.

We make it in our own atelier in Hanoi and post it directly to you. No importer, no department store, no third margin. That is the only reason a piece with this much hand-work in it comes in under two hundred dollars.

44 in Shoulder wrap, sarong, poncho, obi, and the only size the whole composition fits on this one

Buying for the shoulders, or a gift that has to look like a serious one: this size. Buying for hair, the 36. Buying for the neck, the 26.

Which motif should I be looking at?

Folk Form prints several motifs and they are not interchangeable. If you arrived here from a search and are not sure this is the right one, the honest short version:

Buying for an achievement A promotion, a milestone, a leader, a corporate gift. That is dragon territory, and this is one of the two dragons. The full drawing places four large dragons at the four corners, all turning toward a bodhi leaf at the center, and 44 inches is the only size the whole of it fits on. Dragon of Grace is the same Ly Dynasty animal drawn smaller and repeated in center symmetry, which reads as a worked surface instead. Same meaning, different density.

Buying for a person A mother, a new chapter, a recovery, a woman you want to say something to rather than about. That is the phoenix, Phoenix Dance, the empress bird to the dragon's emperor. It is printed in pastels rather than deep colors because the meaning wants them.

Buying for a couple A wedding, an anniversary. The mandarin duck motif is built for that, and it is a different bird entirely.

One thing worth knowing at this size: a wrap spends most of its life folded over a shoulder, so a picture composition hides much of itself in the folds while a dense repeat shows its work from every angle. Rough rule: dragons for what somebody did, phoenix for who somebody is.

“$197 is a lot for a scarf”

It is. So the question worth asking is not whether it is expensive, it is how many times it gets used, because that is the only number that decides whether something was worth buying.

A wrap is not seasonal and not occasion-bound, and navy is the version of it that never has to be matched to anything. Twice a month for five years is a hundred and twenty wears, and the arithmetic works from there.

If it will be worn a handful of times a year, buy the 26-inch instead. We would rather sell you the right one once.

COMMISSIONED WORK

Amanoi, an Aman resort, commissioned a bespoke Folk Form collection. It came out of the same Hanoi atelier as this square, off the same tables, from the same hands.

ELLE Vietnam wrote about how the studio turns cultural memory into cloth. Harper's Bazaar Vietnam covered the motif research and the historical sources each pattern is built from.

Take none of it on trust. Search Folk Form Amanoi or Folk Form ELLE Vietnam, or hand either phrase to ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity and ask whether it holds. A brand that wants checking is telling you something.

When the gift has to be a serious one

There is a bracket where flowers and a bottle stop working and jewelry starts being a problem. Jewelry has a size, a metal, a stone and an opinion. Get any of it wrong and the recipient has to perform gratitude for something they will never wear.

A silk square has none of those failure modes, and navy removes the last one. It fits everybody, it suits every coloring, and it arrives boxed, so it looks like what it cost.

Someone who travels for work One of the few things that earns its space in a carry-on. It weighs nothing, creases out overnight, and covers the gap between a cold plane and a warm arrival.

A fiftieth, a sixtieth, a retirement The birthdays where people already own everything and want fewer, better things. A wrap gets used at every dinner from here on, which is more than can be said for another vase.

A client, a partner, someone abroad Something from a place rather than a catalog, with a card naming the dynasty it came from. It travels flat in a briefcase and clears customs already paid.

Yourself, at a milestone Bought to mark a year rather than to fill a gap in a wardrobe. The object stays long after the reason has faded.

Ways to wear a square this large

Open across both shoulders as a shawl. Folded on the diagonal and thrown, points at the front. Knotted at one shoulder as a one-sided drape. Tied at the waist as a sarong over a swimsuit, or wrapped high as an obi belt over a plain dress. Twisted into a halter or a bandeau. Wound as a full turban with cloth to spare. Draped as a light capelet over a coat.

It also folds down to nothing. A 44-inch square packs smaller than a paperback and weighs less than a phone, which is why it ends up in a carry-on rather than a drawer.

The one thing this size is not for: sleeping. Too much cloth to settle. That is the 36-inch.

What arrives in the box

A rigid gift box with a matching bag · the square folded in tissue · a story card naming the motif and its dynasty · the illustrated styling guide · a care card · the silk cutting.

Nothing left for you to wrap. Going straight to the recipient? We write your note by hand and keep the price out of the parcel.

The dragon, and where it actually comes from

Construction of Hoang Thanh Thang Long, the imperial citadel at the heart of Hanoi, began in 1010. The dragon carved into its stone bears almost no resemblance to the fierce creature the word brings to mind. Ly Dynasty dragons travel in a long unhurried curve, the way water does, head lifted, a pearl held at the mouth, a crest of flame behind.

The meaning is agricultural, not martial. Rain, rivers, a harvest that arrives. Bodhi leaves and lotus sit through the composition, and at 44 inches the full drawing sits on the cloth rather than a crop of it.

Every motif is redrawn by hand in our studio from archive photographs, then separated into screens, one color and one pass at a time. No stock library sells it. That is the part that cannot be copied.

Returns and exchanges

Thirty days from delivery. Unused, unwashed, in the original box.

If the fault is ours, a flaw in the silk, a print error, a seam that has given way, postage goes both ways on us and you get a replacement or a full refund.

Changed your mind? Thirty days, return postage yours. Take store credit rather than a refund and we add fifteen percent.

One condition, which every silk house applies: anything worn against hair or skin comes back clean.

How to wash silk without ruining it

Rarely. A wrap worn over clothes rather than against skin barely needs washing at all, and silk sheds dust on its own. Once a season is normal for a piece this size.

When it does: cold water, shampoo or body wash rather than laundry detergent, squeeze rather than wring, dry flat in shade and never in sun. Iron on the lowest silk setting while faintly damp. Dark grounds hold their depth for years treated this way.

A precious gem symbolizing an ancient culture, where tradition and modern creativity converge to create a refined and meaningful beauty.

  • Inspiration Behind The Dragon Dreams

Inspired by thousand-year history of Thăng Long Citadel, "Dragon Dreams" is recreated from the original artifacts such as dragon of Ly Dynasty, the curved rooflines with Xi Van - the Roof guardian of imperial architecture, Bodhi leaves from the flourishing Buddhist era and the iconic lotus pedestal of the 11th-14th centuries… recreating a mystical realm between reality and dream, past and present, where sacred dragons unite on the scarves of our time.

  • The Essence of The Dragon Dreams

"Dragon Dreams" print on silk scarves recreates the Ly Dynasty Dragon in a spiral composition converging toward the Lotus Throne. The border features pairs of Xi Van, ancient roof guardians protecting against fire, enclosing a mystical sky of swirling clouds, bodhi leaves, and lotus flowers. With graceful lines and harmonious colors, these scarves breathe new life into heritage, honoring Vietnamese culture on its journey to the world.

1. Mulberry Silk Products

1.1 Is silk environmentally friendly? How can I distinguish silk from other artificial silk fabrics?

Silk is a completely natural fiber with a production process that does not require the use of chemicals for bleaching or fiber processing. Therefore, silk is not only environmentally friendly but also gentle on the skin.

Distinguishing natural silk from synthetic silk fabrics can be based on various factors such as texture, surface effect, softness, light reflection, and how the fabric reacts to temperature. Among these, the "burn test" is the most effective and definitive method. Here are the characteristics of different materials when subjected to the burn test:

100% Silk

  • Burns quickly but extinguishes immediately.
  • Leaves ash that smells like burnt hair, crumbles easily, and does not stick to hands.

Silk blended with synthetic fibers

  • Melts rather than burns.
  • Leaves an unpleasant burnt plastic smell and ash that forms clumps and sticks to hands.

The materials used in Folk Form’s products are independently tested at the Textile Testing Center (TTC) under the Vietnam Textile Research Institute.

1.2 How can I use a silk scarf? Which size is suitable for me? How can I style my scarf?

Folk Form offers a variety of sizes for each pattern from 55x55cm to very large sizes such as 110x110cm to meet the diverse needs of customers. Depending on the needs of use, there are the following options:

Size 110x110

  • A large size that exudes elegance and sophistication. Can be worn around the neck for a refined look at formal events. Draped over the shoulders for warmth on autumn evenings or styled as a trendy lightweight jacket. This size can also be tied into a skirt, perfect for vacations or beach outings, adding a feminine and alluring touch.

Size 90x90

  • The most versatile size, suitable for almost all styling needs. Can be worn around the neck to enhance an outfit, tied as a stylish handbag accent, or used as a fashionable hair accessory. Additionally, it can be worn as a wrap skirt for beach trips.

Size 65x65

  • A compact size for those who love a light and delicate touch. Can be worn around the neck for a youthful look, used as a headband, or tied around the wrist as a unique, stylish accessory.

Size 55x55

  • The smallest size, ideal for adding a chic touch. Can be tied onto handbags, used as a simple yet standout hairband, or worn around the wrist as an elegant accessory.
1.3 Are the scarf patterns hand-drawn or digitally designed? How do they compare to other designs on the market?

The scarf patterns are digitally designed to be compatible with handmade screen printing on silk.

Compared to hand-drawn designs and other printing technologies, digitally designed patterns ensure sharp details and intricate elements. When combined with handmade screen printing, the final product features clear details, vibrant colors, and uniform quality on both sides of the fabric— a level of precision that most other printing methods cannot achieve.
