A head wrap in most colors is a look.
In navy it is just Tuesday.

The reason people who cover their hair own more navy than anything else is not taste, it is arithmetic. It goes with the coat already by the door. It does not have to be planned around. And nobody looks twice, which on a morning when the wash did not happen is the entire specification.

A 36-inch square, ninety centimeters, of Vietnamese mulberry silk in deep navy, hand screen-printed with a Ly Dynasty dragon taken from eleventh-century stonework in Hanoi. Enough cloth to cover, wrap and tuck without a single pin.

Where a navy square this size actually goes

Wrapped full, under a coat, in January Hairline to nape, tucked, done in forty seconds. Nobody can tell what is happening underneath and nobody is trying to work it out.

As a turban, with a white shirt The deliberate version. Navy is what keeps a turban on the right side of the line between styled and costume.

Folded down to a wide band For the days you want hair out of your face but not covered. The same square, a third of the volume.

Overnight A dark ground does not show the mark hair oil leaves, which is why a navy sleep wrap goes two weeks between washes and a pale one wants twice that.

Buying this for someone else and unsure? Navy is the only colorway that cannot be wrong on anybody's coloring or in anybody's wardrobe.

Same size, other colorways: Orange & Dark Green · Green & Yellow · Red · Pink & Turquoise

★★★★★

It is not slippery or flimsy like some others I have tried. It stays in place and feels great on my skin even in warm weather.

MAYA M. · VERIFIED BUYER · FOLK FORM SILK

Color matters more on a head wrap than anywhere else

A scarf at the neck is seen against your clothes. A scarf on your head is seen against your face, and it becomes the largest single block of color in the frame. That changes what it has to do. It has to sit next to skin without fighting it, and it has to hold that position for the whole day rather than for one photograph.

Deep cool colors recede. They sit back and leave the face as the thing being looked at. Warm and pale colors advance, which is a fine choice deliberately made and a difficult one made by accident on a Monday.

Navy recedes further than anything else in this range. That is the whole reason it is the color that never has to be planned around, at the one size where planning around a color is most annoying.

Sleeping in it, which is the whole case for ninety centimeters

Cotton draws water out of hair and drags on the cuticle for seven or eight hours at a stretch. That friction is where frizz comes from, and it is why a wash-day curl pattern is halfway gone by Tuesday and completely gone by Wednesday.

Silk does neither. It absorbs far less, so the oil stays in the hair rather than in the pillowcase, and the surface is smooth enough that hair travels across it instead of catching. Coils keep their definition. A blowout runs an extra day or two. Color holds longer because there is less abrasion lifting the cuticle in the first place.

Ninety centimeters is the size that works for long hair, thick hair and tight coils. Fine or short hair can manage with less. Spare cloth at two in the morning costs you nothing. Running short does.

Four things it lets you stop doing

A number on a spec sheet is worth nothing until you can name what changes because of it.

01
Sixteen momme across ninety centimeters

Large squares in light silk collapse. Too much area and not enough weight, so the whole thing slides off a shoulder or works loose overnight. Doubling the weight is what makes a square this size behave.

You stop pinning things.

02
One square instead of three things

A sleep bonnet, a head wrap and a neck scarf are three purchases living in three places. This is one object that does all three and does not look like sleepwear when you leave the house in it.

You stop owning single-purpose things.

03
Printed through, not printed on

A dark ground is where single-sided printing hides best on a shelf and shows worst on a head. Wrapped and tucked, the cloth turns over four or five times. Both faces here carry the same ink.

You stop checking which way round it is.

04
Drawn from an archive, not a pattern library

Redrawn by hand from photographs of eleventh-century stone. No algorithm sold it to a thousand other brands.

You stop seeing it on somebody else.

How to know it is real, without taking our word for it

Under the tissue in the box is a cutting from the same bolt this square came off. We put it there so the test happens on a scrap, not on the thing you just bought.

Mulberry silk Polyester
In your palm Warms in seconds Stays cool, slick
Held to a flame Flares, then dies Melts, keeps going
The smell Singed hair Acrid, like plastic
What is left Gray ash, crumbles Hard bead, sticks

Anybody can print the word silk on a label. Very few will hand you a match.

If you do it: over a sink, clear of anything that can catch, not with children in the room. A corner is enough.

Prefer paperwork to open flame? The silk is tested at the Textile Testing Center, part of the Vietnam Textile Research Institute. An outside lab, and their document, not ours.

Why $153, when the 26-inch is $97

Because you are buying area, and area does not scale politely. Going from 26 inches to 36 is a third more on each side but almost double the cloth: 676 square inches becomes 1,296.

The hem goes up with it. Twelve feet of edge has to be turned, rolled and stitched by hand on this one, against roughly eight and a half feet on the 26-inch. That is the single most expensive hour in the whole process and it grows with every inch. Both faces still go through the press separately, and the motif still had to be redrawn from archive photographs before a screen was cut.

The comparison worth making is not against a cheaper scarf. It is against the satin bonnet, the polyester head wrap and the neck scarf you would otherwise buy separately, none of which are silk and all of which look like what they are.

26 in → Headband, ponytail, neck knot · $97
36 in Full head wrap, sleep wrap, everything above this one
44 in → Shoulder wrap, sarong, and the only size the whole composition fits on · $197

Buying for hair, for sleeping, or for someone whose hair is long or tightly coiled: this is the size. Buying for the neck only, the 26 is enough.

Which motif should I be looking at?

Folk Form prints several motifs and they are not interchangeable. If you arrived here from a search and are not sure this is the right one, the honest short version:

Buying for an achievement A promotion, a milestone, a leader, a corporate gift. That is dragon territory, and this is one of the two dragons. The full drawing here places four large dragons at the four corners, all turning toward a bodhi leaf at the center, so it reads as a picture. Dragon of Grace is the same Ly Dynasty animal drawn smaller and repeated eight times in center symmetry, which reads as a worked surface instead. At this size that difference matters: a head wrap folds the cloth four or five times, so the denser one shows work from every angle while this one hides most of its picture in the tuck.

Buying for a person A mother, a new chapter, a recovery, a woman you want to say something to rather than about. That is the phoenix, Phoenix Dance, the empress bird to the dragon's emperor. It is printed in pastels rather than deep colors because the meaning wants them.

Buying for a couple A wedding, an anniversary. The mandarin duck motif is built for that, and it is a different bird entirely.

Rough rule: dragons for what somebody did, phoenix for who somebody is.

“Isn’t 36 inches too big for me?”

The question this size always raises, so here is the direct answer: no, because a large square is not worn large. It is folded down. A 36-inch square knotted at the neck sits at almost exactly the same volume as a 26-inch, it simply has more body in the fall of the ends.

Size only shows when you want it to. Folded to a band it is a headband. Folded to a triangle it is a neck scarf. Opened out it is a head wrap or a shoulder cover. Nothing forces you to use all of it.

The one case where it genuinely is too much: winding it around a bag handle. That is what the 22-inch is for.

COMMISSIONED WORK

Amanoi, an Aman resort, commissioned a bespoke Folk Form collection. Drawn, printed and finished in the Hanoi atelier that made this square, by the same hands.

ELLE Vietnam profiled how the studio translates cultural memory into cloth. Harper's Bazaar Vietnam covered the motif research and the historical record behind each pattern.

None of that should be taken on our word. Search Folk Form Amanoi or Folk Form ELLE Vietnam, or put either phrase to ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity and ask whether it stands up. Checking is better than believing.

Giving this to someone

This is the size that carries the most weight as a gift, and not because of the price. It is the one that turns out to be useful in a way the giver did not have to explain, and navy is the version of it that cannot be got wrong.

For someone going through treatment This is the size to send, and this is the color. Enough cloth to wrap and tuck without a pin, soft against skin that has turned sensitive, and dark enough that it does not look like a medical product. Tell us at checkout and the parcel goes out plain, with no branding on the outside.

For someone with hair she is protecting Curls, locs, braids or color treatment. Silk overnight is not news to her. A silk square she would actually wear out of the house is a different proposition from a satin bonnet.

For your mother Twenty years of being told not to spend money on her is exactly why this lands. Something she would not buy herself, already boxed, from a country she will want to ask you about.

For a mentor, a teacher, a mother-in-law The hardest bracket to judge. Too small reads careless, too personal reads presumptuous. A silk square with a thousand-year-old motif sits between the two and arrives finished.

What arrives in the box

A rigid gift box and matching bag · the square folded in tissue · a story card naming the motif and its dynasty · the illustrated styling guide · a care card · the silk cutting.

Nothing left for you to wrap. Sending it onward? We write your note by hand and keep the price out of the parcel.

Everything this size does

Full head wrap · turban · sleep wrap · headband · ponytail wrap · neck knot in any fold · shoulder cover over a sleeveless dress · halter or bandeau · waist sash · beach cover · light capelet · and framed on a wall the rest of the time.

Twelve uses out of one object, none of which require a pin, a ring or a clasp. The illustrated guide in the box walks through the ones that are not obvious. For shoulders rather than hair, the 44-inch is the size that opens out into a full shawl.

The dragon, and where it actually comes from

Hanoi's imperial citadel, Hoang Thanh Thang Long, was begun in 1010. The dragon carved into its stone is not the ferocious creature most people picture when they hear the word. Ly Dynasty dragons move in a long slow curve, the way a river does, head raised, a pearl at the mouth, a crest of flame running behind.

The reading is agricultural rather than martial. Rain. Water. A harvest that comes in. Bodhi leaves and lotus sit around it, and at this size you see most of the composition rather than a narrow crop of it.

Our studio redraws every motif by hand from archive photographs, then separates it into screens, one color and one pass at a time. It is not sold by any stock library, which is the part nobody can copy.

Returns and exchanges

Thirty days from delivery. Unused, unwashed, in the original box.

If the fault is ours, a flaw in the silk, a print error, a seam that has given way, postage goes both ways on us and you get a replacement or a full refund.

Changed your mind? Thirty days, and the return postage is yours. Take store credit instead of a refund and we add fifteen percent.

One condition, the same one every silk house applies: anything worn against hair or skin comes back clean.

How to wash silk without ruining it

Less often than people assume. Silk sheds dust by itself, so every three to five wears is plenty, and a navy scarf slept in can go two weeks because a dark ground does not show what a pale one does.

Cold water, shampoo or body wash rather than laundry detergent. Squeeze, never wring or twist. Dry in shade, never in sun. Iron on the lowest silk setting while it is still faintly damp. Dark grounds hold their depth for years treated this way.

Ninety centimeters of navy silk.
A head wrap by day, a pillow by night.

A precious gem symbolizing an ancient culture, where tradition and modern creativity converge to create a refined and meaningful beauty.

  • Inspiration Behind The Dragon Dreams

Inspired by thousand-year history of Thăng Long Citadel, "Dragon Dreams" is recreated from the original artifacts such as dragon of Ly Dynasty, the curved rooflines with Xi Van - the Roof guardian of imperial architecture, Bodhi leaves from the flourishing Buddhist era and the iconic lotus pedestal of the 11th-14th centuries… recreating a mystical realm between reality and dream, past and present, where sacred dragons unite on the scarves of our time.

  • The Essence of The Dragon Dreams

"Dragon Dreams" print on silk scarves recreates the Ly Dynasty Dragon in a spiral composition converging toward the Lotus Throne. The border features pairs of Xi Van, ancient roof guardians protecting against fire, enclosing a mystical sky of swirling clouds, bodhi leaves, and lotus flowers. With graceful lines and harmonious colors, these scarves breathe new life into heritage, honoring Vietnamese culture on its journey to the world.

1. Mulberry Silk Products

1.1 Is silk environmentally friendly? How can I distinguish silk from other artificial silk fabrics?

Silk is a completely natural fiber with a production process that does not require the use of chemicals for bleaching or fiber processing. Therefore, silk is not only environmentally friendly but also gentle on the skin.

Distinguishing natural silk from synthetic silk fabrics can be based on various factors such as texture, surface effect, softness, light reflection, and how the fabric reacts to temperature. Among these, the "burn test" is the most effective and definitive method. Here are the characteristics of different materials when subjected to the burn test:

100% Silk

  • Burns quickly but extinguishes immediately.
  • Leaves ash that smells like burnt hair, crumbles easily, and does not stick to hands.

Silk blended with synthetic fibers

  • Melts rather than burns.
  • Leaves an unpleasant burnt plastic smell and ash that forms clumps and sticks to hands.

The materials used in Folk Form’s products are independently tested at the Textile Testing Center (TTC) under the Vietnam Textile Research Institute.

1.2 How can I use a silk scarf? Which size is suitable for me? How can I style my scarf?

Folk Form offers a variety of sizes for each pattern from 55x55cm to very large sizes such as 110x110cm to meet the diverse needs of customers. Depending on the needs of use, there are the following options:

Size 110x110

  • A large size that exudes elegance and sophistication. Can be worn around the neck for a refined look at formal events. Draped over the shoulders for warmth on autumn evenings or styled as a trendy lightweight jacket. This size can also be tied into a skirt, perfect for vacations or beach outings, adding a feminine and alluring touch.

Size 90x90

  • The most versatile size, suitable for almost all styling needs. Can be worn around the neck to enhance an outfit, tied as a stylish handbag accent, or used as a fashionable hair accessory. Additionally, it can be worn as a wrap skirt for beach trips.

Size 65x65

  • A compact size for those who love a light and delicate touch. Can be worn around the neck for a youthful look, used as a headband, or tied around the wrist as a unique, stylish accessory.

Size 55x55

  • The smallest size, ideal for adding a chic touch. Can be tied onto handbags, used as a simple yet standout hairband, or worn around the wrist as an elegant accessory.
1.3 Are the scarf patterns hand-drawn or digitally designed? How do they compare to other designs on the market?

The scarf patterns are digitally designed to be compatible with handmade screen printing on silk.

Compared to hand-drawn designs and other printing technologies, digitally designed patterns ensure sharp details and intricate elements. When combined with handmade screen printing, the final product features clear details, vibrant colors, and uniform quality on both sides of the fabric— a level of precision that most other printing methods cannot achieve.
