If you are shopping for someone about to leave, for a semester away, a long trip or a move, think about what survives a suitcase. Fine chains knot. Clasps want two hands and good light.
This strand lies flat in a bag, weighs less than a folded scarf and goes on over the head. Green, plain mulberry silk, with about 180 beads wrapped by hand over wooden cores.
We pay the import duty, not you.
Allow 1 to 3 business days before it leaves Hanoi, then 9 to 15 business days to a US address. Under $90 shipping is a flat $20. At $90 and above it is free.
Why green, and why plain, for travel
Packing light means clothes that all work together, and green is an easy partner for them: white shirts, navy, khaki, black and denim. It adds color without asking for a matching outfit.
Plain silk keeps it simple. One color runs the whole length, so it never argues with a printed dress or a patterned scarf picked up on the road.
It also makes no sound and has no metal parts, so there is nothing to catch on a sweater or rattle in a bag.
Four ways to wear it away from home
On the plane Long, over a soft sweater, for the hours in a seat.
At dinner Doubled, so one loop sits at the collarbone and one at mid-chest.
On a walking day Knotted once near the sternum, which keeps it short and out of the way.
On a warm afternoon Wrapped several times around the wrist and tucked.
No size to choose. At 44 inches it simply goes over the head.
Will it survive a suitcase?
Each bead is wrapped by hand and closed with the join turned inward, away from view.
The cord is knotted between beads. They do not grind against each other, and should the cord ever snap, a single bead comes free while the rest stay put.
Keep it dry. It cannot go in water, so leave it in the room on a swimming day.
Is it real silk?
Yes, mulberry silk, plain dyed green and wrapped around every bead by hand.

Why $64
Most of the cost is time. A 44-inch strand holds about 180 beads, and each is covered in silk by hand before it is knotted onto the cord.
No metal, stone or plating goes into it. The printed versions are $75: their silk goes under the screens before it is cut. This one is plain, at $64.
It is wrapped in our Hanoi atelier and mailed from there to you.
Will it arrive before they leave?
1 to 3 business days until dispatch, then 9 to 15 business days in the mail.
Count 18 business days back from the departure date, about three and a half weeks, and order before that.
Duties and returns
Duties: we pay the US import duty, so there is no charge on delivery.
Returns: within 30 days, unused and unworn, in the original box. If you change your mind, the return postage is yours. Store credit adds 15%.
Giving it before a trip
It arrives gift boxed. Ship it to them directly with their address in shipping and yours in billing, and leave a message in Order Notes: we copy it by hand onto a card. The parcel carries no price.
