What green and pink do at this size
Over the shoulders at the wedding itself The reason to own it rather than give it. A pale wrap over a dark dress is the oldest formula in evening dressing, and this one does the work of a jacket without the structure.
Over navy or charcoal, by day Dark tailoring pulls the green cooler and lets the pink come forward, so the same square reads warmer against navy than it does against white. One shawl, two readings.
Over cream and camel Tonal on one side and contrasting on the other. This is the combination that photographs as expensive and reads in person as effortless.

Two honest cautions. First, if the gift is not about a pair, this is the wrong motif entirely - two ducks under a lotus means marriage and means staying, and sent to a woman who is single, or where a marriage is a difficult subject, it reads as a comment rather than a compliment. Mulberry silk is a protein fiber, drawn from the silkworm's cocoon as a single filament that can run for hundreds of yards.
A meter of sixteen momme silk feels substantial when you lift it and almost weightless once it is on, the weight shared across both shoulders, so it stays on through the vows, the dinner and the dancing.
Its two colors trade places with the light: beside white the green leads, beside navy the pink, so one square keeps two moods.

The work inside $197
Nearly three times the area of the 26-inch, with 440 centimeters of hand-rolled hem against 260, this square is printed through both faces, screen by screen, and a drawing of birds, lotus and insects on a two-color ground asks every panel to land exactly twice.
The motif was researched from period architectural fragments and redrawn by hand, and every piece is made in our own atelier in Hanoi and sent straight to you at $197. As a wedding gift from family, it sits where such gifts usually do, and it will never need a place in a cupboard.

A rough guide for a wedding: the 26 is a warm gift from a friend or a coworker, the 36 is the one she will use most, and this is the one that reads as family. It is also the only size that carries the composition entire - everything smaller is a cut from the same drawing.

A wedding wish from the palace roofs
Its origin is the loveliest part, and she will enjoy telling it.
Archaeologists at the imperial citadel of Thang Long found roof tiles known by their pictures, the lotus tile and the mandarin-duck tile; the pair rode the palace roof as a public wish for happy marriages.
Their story is older than the dragons': terracotta ducks already watched over Hoa Lu, the capital before the Ly dynasty.
Mandarin ducks are faithful to their pair, which is why a pair on the roof meant a marriage that would hold and a household at peace. Below them the lotus, rising clean from the mud, adds a wish to keep your grace through whatever comes.
Our studio redrew the ducks and lotus by hand from archive photographs, divided the drawing into screens and printed each color in Hanoi, one pass at a time, so the story she tells is one we drew ourselves.

Washing Easier than people fear, and less often. Silk sheds dust on its own, so every three to five wears is plenty. Cold water, shampoo or body wash rather than laundry detergent. Squeeze, never wring - and with a meter of cloth, lift it out supported rather than letting the weight of the water pull on one corner. Dry flat in shade, never in sun. Iron on the lowest silk setting while still faintly damp.
Returns Thirty days from delivery, unused and unwashed, in the original box. If the fault is ours, a flaw in the silk, a print error, a seam that failed, postage goes both ways on us and you get a replacement or a full refund. Changed your mind? Thirty days, return postage yours, and if you take store credit instead of a refund we add fifteen percent. One condition: it comes back unused, unwashed and unworn, in its original box.
