A square scarf is a commitment. A twilly is not: it goes in your hair on a Saturday, around a bag handle on Monday, and at your wrist when you have nowhere else to put it.

This is Phoenix Dance in green, on a narrow ribbon of 100% Grade 5A mulberry silk. Hand-printed, with the edges rolled and stitched by hand.

A phoenix, in miniature

Phoenix Dance comes from temple carving of the Ly and Tran Dynasties in northern Vietnam. It was drawn in the soft, flowing Ly style.

The phoenix was the empress's bird. Carved at roof corners and on stair flanks, it said the country was at peace and there was beauty worth noticing.

On a twilly you see a slice of the drawing, not the whole bird. The feeling carries anyway: light, green, calm.

Phoenix Dance is the motif we also make as a twilly, in pink, purple and green.

Is it real silk?

Yes. 100% Grade 5A mulberry silk. It was tested by an outside lab. That lab is the Textile Testing Center, Vietnam Textile Research Institute.

Is a twilly worth it on its own?

If you want to try silk without a big square, yes. It is a small way in, and easy to wear every day.

Why $57

The phoenix is printed by hand, one screen and one pass for every color. Our studio redrew the motif from archive photographs before a screen was cut.

A narrow ribbon still has its whole edge rolled and stitched by hand, and that takes time.

Everything happens in our own atelier in Hanoi. The parcel comes to you from there, duty paid.

How long will it take?

1 to 3 business days of processing in Hanoi, then 9 to 15 business days to a US address.

Door to door, about two to three and a half weeks. At most 18 business days.

Duties and returns

Duties: we pay the US import duty, so you owe nothing at the door.

Returns: 30 days, unused, unwashed and unworn, in the original box. Change-of-mind return postage is paid by you. Choose store credit instead of a refund and we add 15%.

How to care for it

Every 3 to 5 wears is enough. Silk does not hold dust.

Cold water with shampoo or body wash, not laundry detergent. Squeeze, never wring. Dry flat in the shade. Iron on the lowest silk setting while it is still damp.
