Unfold it from the tissue and the cloth is what she notices before the color, supple and heavier than she expects. Silk is a protein fiber spun by the Bombyx mori silkworm, and polyester, by contrast, begins as oil.

Both faces are printed, so the silk passes through the press twice, and the motif was redrawn from the archive by an artist in our studio. We make every square in our own atelier in Hanoi and send it directly to you, which keeps the price at $75. Over five years of weekly wear, that is less than thirty cents each time.

Which motif should I be looking at?

Each of our motifs holds a different wish, and the right one depends on who will wear it.

Buying for an achievement A promotion, a milestone, a leader, a corporate gift: these belong to the dragons, and this is one of our two. Here the Ly Dynasty creature is drawn small and repeated in center symmetry, a finely worked surface, while Dragon Dreams draws it large, four at the corners turning toward a bodhi leaf, like a painting. At this small size the repeat is the kinder choice, since every fold still shows the drawing.

Buying for a person For a mother, a new chapter, a recovery, or a woman you want to celebrate for herself: Phoenix Dance, the empress's bird beside the dragon's emperor, drawn from peacock and pheasant and printed in soft pastels. The dragon of the Ly court

At the center of Hanoi stands Hoang Thanh Thang Long, the imperial citadel begun in 1010, and the dragon carved in its stone is a tender, unhurried creature. It has no scales; its body flows toward the tail like a stream, with three talons sharp as a hawk's, a raised head and long mane, a pearl at the mouth and a crest of flame lifting from the nose. The S mark on its brow is the archaic character for thunder, a promise of rain, full rivers and a harvest gathered in.

The pearl holds the meaning. In the Lotus Sutra the dragon girl gives her pearl away, so this is a dragon of generosity, and An, in its name, means grace that is given.

May Hoa Long An draws the creature small and repeats it in symmetry around a center, each dragon offering a bodhi leaf inward, framed by carved borders and a lotus pedestal. Silk is a completely natural fiber with a production process that does not require the use of chemicals for bleaching or fiber processing. Therefore, silk is not only environmentally friendly but also gentle on the skin.

Distinguishing natural silk from synthetic silk fabrics can be based on various factors such as texture, surface effect, softness, light reflection, and how the fabric reacts to temperature. Among these, the "burn test" is the most effective and definitive method. Here are the characteristics of different materials when subjected to the burn test:

  • Leaves ash that smells like burnt hair, crumbles easily, and does not stick to hands.

  • Melts rather than burns.
