A bird carved to say that all was well
Our phoenix began on the carved beam ends, stair flanks and roof corners of Ly and Tran Dynasty temples in northern Vietnam, in the age that raised the One Pillar Pagoda.
Carvers set it there to say the country was at peace and prosperous, and that there was beauty worth stopping for. She holds a pearl and moves through cloud, her plumage in five colors, one for each of the five elements.
Pastel tones suit that gentle meaning, and on pale green in daylight the phoenix says, softly, that all is well. Read more about the meaning of the Phoenix Dance motif.

The standard cut drapes loosely on a bust up to 37 in / 94 cm. There is no waist seam, so it skims the body rather than fitting close.

Yes, 100% mulberry silk. It is built from the same hand-printed silk panels as our Phoenix Dance scarves.

Every panel of this dress is screen-printed by hand, one screen for each color, and a maxi needs plenty of panels. The phoenix is then matched across the seams so the drawing is never cut in half.
It is cut and sewn to order in our Hanoi atelier and shipped straight to you with the US import duty covered. $386 is the full amount; made to measure adds 10%.
Will it arrive before the event?
Standard size: 1 to 3 business days before it leaves Hanoi, 9 to 15 business days to a US address. Leave about three and a half weeks.
Made to measure: plus 3 to 5 business days of tailoring.
Can I return it?
Standard size: 30-day returns, unworn and unwashed, in the original box. Return postage for a change of mind is paid by you; store credit comes with an extra 15%.
Made to measure: cut for one person, so it sits outside the 30-day return. It includes one complimentary alteration.
