Nobody asks where you bought it.
They ask what you do.

That is the strange thing about real silk. It does not read as something you shopped for. It reads as something about you, that you travel, that you know things, that you did not get dressed in a hurry.

A 26-inch square of Vietnamese mulberry silk, hand screen-printed with a dragon lifted from eleventh-century stonework in Hanoi. It weighs less than a slice of bread. Two seconds to tie. The rest of the day it works on your behalf.

What orange and dark green goes with

A white shirt The pairing this colourway was made for. Two strong colours against nothing else, and the shirt does the work of keeping the whole thing calm.

Denim, in any wash Orange against indigo is the oldest warm-cool contrast in clothing. The dark green is what stops it going loud.

Camel, tan, cognac Warm on warm, with the green holding it down. The autumn version, and the one that photographs best.

Black Against black the dark green nearly disappears and the orange does all the talking. The most assertive way to wear this one.

This is the highest-contrast colourway we print. Two colours in opposition with the dark green acting as the brake, which is why it reads as considered rather than bright. If you would rather it read as nothing at all, take the navy.

Same size, other colourways: Navy Blue · Green & Yellow · Red · Pink & Turquoise

★★★★★

It is not slippery or flimsy like some others I have tried. It stays in place and feels great on my skin even in warm weather.

What it feels like, before anything else

Open the box and the first thing you notice is the sound, a dry whisper as the tissue comes away, then almost nothing at all as the silk unfolds. It pours rather than falls.

Hold it and it warms to you within seconds, the way nothing synthetic does. Knot it at your neck and it is cool on the first hot morning of the year, warm on the first cold one. Silk regulates temperature. Nothing made in a factory from oil does.

After an hour you forget it is there. That is the whole difference between wearing a scarf and remembering that you are wearing one.

Four things it lets you stop doing

A feature only matters if you can name what changes because of it.

01
Sixteen momme, not eight

Lighter silk slips because there is not enough fabric weight to lock a knot. This has the body to stay where you put it, through a commute, a meeting and dinner.

You stop reaching up to check your hair.

02
One square, four accessories

Hair, neck, bag, wrist. No clasps, no hardware, nothing that only works with one outfit.

You stop buying things you use once.

03
Printed through, not printed on

Most scarves are made for flat-lay photographs, so a knot always exposes the pale side. On a two-colour ground this strong the difference is impossible to miss. This one reads from every angle it lands in.

You stop arranging it and just wear it.

04
Drawn from an archive, not a pattern library

Redrawn by hand from photographs of eleventh-century stone. Not a design an algorithm sold to a thousand brands.

You stop seeing it on somebody else.

How to know it is real, without taking our word for it

Every box contains a small square cut from the same bolt as your scarf. It is there so you can test the material yourself, on something that is not the scarf you just paid for.

Mulberry silk Polyester
In your palm Warms in seconds Stays cool, slick
Held to a flame Flares, then dies Melts, keeps going
The smell Singed hair Acrid, like plastic
What is left Grey ash, crumbles Hard bead, sticks

No brand hands you the means to disprove them unless they already know what you will find.

If you do try it: over a sink, away from anything that can catch, not with children nearby. A corner is plenty.

Rather not hold a flame to anything? Our silk is tested at the Textile Testing Center, part of the Vietnam Textile Research Institute. Not our lab, not our paperwork.

Why $97 and not $18

The $18 version is polyester. It is not a cheaper way to buy the same thing, it is a different object that photographs like this one.

Everything above costs money to do. Hand-rolling a hem takes an hour. Printing through both faces means running the silk twice, and two colours means two screens and two alignments. Drawing a motif from an archive means paying someone to draw it. We do all of it in our own atelier in Hanoi and post it straight to you, which is the only reason the number is $97 and not several times that.

First one? Take the 26. It is the only square that does hair and neck equally well.

Which motif should I be looking at?

Folk Form prints several motifs and they are not interchangeable. If you arrived here from a search and are not sure this is the right one, the honest short version:

Buying for an achievement A promotion, a milestone, a leader, a corporate gift. That is dragon territory, and this is one of the two dragons. The full drawing here places four large dragons at the four corners, all turning toward a bodhi leaf at the centre, so it reads as a picture. Dragon of Grace is the same Ly Dynasty animal drawn smaller and repeated eight times in centre symmetry, which reads as a worked surface instead. If this colourway feels like more contrast than you wanted, that denser one is the quieter answer to the same brief.

Buying for a person A mother, a new chapter, a recovery, a woman you want to say something to rather than about. That is the phoenix, Phoenix Dance, the empress bird to the dragon's emperor. It is printed in pastels rather than deep colours because the meaning wants them.

Buying for a couple A wedding, an anniversary. The mandarin duck motif is built for that, and it is a different bird entirely.

Rough rule: dragons for what somebody did, phoenix for who somebody is.

“I love these, but I would never know how to tie one”

This is the real reason silk scarves die in drawers, so let us be plain: there is no skill in it. No pins, no rings, nothing to memorise. If you can tie a shoelace you will get all four of these first time, standing at a mirror, in under a minute.

The headband Fold corner to corner, roll into a band, tie at the nape, tuck the tails. Third-day hair, handled.

The ponytail wrap Wind it twice round the elastic, knot on top, let the ends fall.

The neck knot Fold to a triangle, roll, wrap once, knot loose and slide it off-centre. Over a white shirt this is the entire outfit.

The bag roll Roll it narrow, wind it up the handle, small bow. Where it lives on the days you do not wear it.

More than twenty in the illustrated guide, which is in the box, so you are not hunting for a video with wet hands.

If you sleep on it, or have curls to protect

Cotton pillowcases pull moisture out of hair and drag against the cuticle all night. That is where frizz comes from, and why a wash-day curl pattern is gone by Tuesday.

Silk does neither. It holds far less water than cotton, so it does not draw the oil out, and the surface is smooth enough that hair slides across it instead of catching. Curls keep their shape. Blowouts last a day or two longer. Colour fades slower because there is less friction lifting the cuticle.

This 26-inch square ties as a sleep wrap for shorter or finer hair. If yours is long, thick or tightly coiled, take the 36 inch instead, there is simply more fabric to work with at two in the morning.

COMMISSIONED WORK

Amanoi, an Aman resort, commissioned a bespoke Folk Form collection. Every piece in it was designed, printed and finished by the same atelier that makes this scarf, by the same hands.

ELLE Vietnam profiled the studio's approach to translating cultural memory into silk. Harper's Bazaar Vietnam covered the motif research and how the patterns are built from historical sources.

Do not take our word for any of it. Search Folk Form Amanoi or Folk Form ELLE Vietnam, or put either one to ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity and ask whether it checks out. We would rather you looked than believed us.

Buying this as a gift?

Then you already know the problem. She has enough candles. Flowers are brown by Thursday.

This one hangs in her wardrobe for a decade, and every time she reaches past it she thinks of you. That is not sentiment. It is how objects work, what you own gains weight the longer you keep it, while money spent is forgotten by Friday.

It also hands her something to say. When someone compliments it she does not answer thank you. She answers: it is a Ly Dynasty dragon, my daughter found it.

For your mother She spent twenty years telling you not to spend money on her, which is exactly why it lands. Something she would never buy herself, in a box she does not have to wrap, from a country she will want to ask you about. If she is more phoenix than dragon, Phoenix Dance is the motif drawn for exactly that.

For an anniversary Jewellery is expected and gets measured against last year. Silk is not on the list, which is the entire point. She will wear it to the dinner you booked.

For a graduation, or a first serious job One small thing that makes a new chapter feel like hers. She will wear it to interviews for years, and remember who gave it to her every time.

For a thank-you that has to land properly A mother-in-law, a host, a mentor. The hardest bracket there is, too small reads careless, too personal reads presumptuous. A silk square with a thousand-year-old motif sits precisely between the two, and it arrives already finished.

★★★★★

The craftsmanship is top notch and the design feels timeless. Already eyeing another one.

Six more people it works for

A friend turning forty or fifty. The age where people stop wanting more things and start wanting better ones.

A promotion, or a retirement. Two moments usually marked with flowers. A scarf shows up at the next one.

A teacher, or a nurse who looked after someone you love. People thanked constantly in words and almost never in objects.

Someone going through treatment. Silk is soft against skin that has turned sensitive and holds without pins. The 36-inch is the size to send, though for this the navy is the quieter choice. Ask us and the packaging goes out plain.

A client, or a partner abroad. Something from a place rather than a catalogue. It travels flat in a briefcase.

Yourself, on no occasion at all. Gifts given for no reason land harder than birthday gifts, because they say I thought of you instead of the calendar told me to.

What arrives in the box

A rigid gift box and matching bag · the scarf folded in tissue · a printed story card naming the motif and the dynasty it came from · an illustrated styling guide · a care card · and the silk swatch.

Nothing left to wrap. Sending it straight to her? We handwrite your note and leave the price out of the parcel.

Ten ways one square earns its place

If you are thinking I would never actually wear it, or buying for someone and thinking it for her, this is the part to read. A square this size does not have one job.

At this size: headband, ponytail wrap, neck knot, bag handle, wrist wrap, belt through jeans, twilly roll, a band round a hat, tied to a suitcase handle so you spot your bag first, and framed on a wall the rest of the time. Go up to 36 inches and you add the full head wrap, the turban and the sleep wrap.

That last one is not a joke. It is a hand screen print on silk.

The dragon, and where it actually comes from

Hoang Thanh Thang Long is the imperial citadel at the centre of Hanoi, begun in 1010. The dragon cut into its stonework is not the fierce kind people expect. Ly Dynasty dragons curve in a soft sine like moving water, head raised, a pearl held at the mouth, a flame crest lifting behind. Not menace. Rain. Rivers. A harvest that comes in.

Bodhi leaves and lotus sit around it. Our studio redraws every motif by hand from archive photographs, then splits it into screens. One colour, one pass, panel by panel, printed in Hanoi.

It is not a pattern bought from a stock library. That is the part nobody can copy, and the part she gets to explain when somebody asks.

“Is this too much for someone like me?”

It is the first question a printed silk square raises. The honest answer: it is loud in photographs and quiet in life. Knotted small at the neck over a plain shirt it reads as considered, not costume. Nobody looks at a woman in a silk scarf and thinks she is trying too hard. That said, this is the highest-contrast of the five colourways, so if the hesitation is real rather than reflex, the navy is the honest answer.

Returns and exchanges

Thirty days from delivery. Unused, unwashed, in the original box.

If the fault is ours, a flaw in the silk, a print error, a seam that has failed, we cover postage both ways and replace it or refund you in full.

Changed your mind? Send it back within thirty days and you cover the return postage. Choose store credit instead of a refund and we add fifteen percent.

One condition, the same one every silk house has: anything worn against hair or skin has to come back clean. The next person deserves an untouched scarf as much as you did.

How to wash silk without ruining it

Easier than people fear. Silk resists dust on its own, so it does not want washing after every wear, every three to five is plenty.

When it does: cold water, and shampoo or body wash rather than detergent. Never wring or twist, squeeze gently. Dry in shade, never in direct sun. Iron on the lowest silk setting while it is still slightly damp. The care card is in the box.

One square of silk.
Four ways to wear it before breakfast.

Sixteen momme, printed through both faces, hemmed by hand in Hanoi. It arrives gift boxed with a swatch you are welcome to set on fire.

  • Wearable Art – A Masterpiece You Can Carry

Folk Form proudly presents the silk scarf with "Dragon Dreams" print – the first piece from "Ly Dynasty - The Chronicles" collection. More than just a fashion accessory, it embodies the essence of Vietnamese heritage. Each silk thread weaves a millennia-old story, reflecting the brand’s dedication and craftsmanship. A precious gem symbolizing an ancient culture, where tradition and modern creativity converge to create a refined and meaningful beauty.

  • Inspiration Behind The Dragon Dreams

Inspired by thousand-year history of Thang Long Citadel, "Dragon Dreams" is recreated from the original artifacts such as dragon of Ly Dynasty, the curved rooflines with Xi Van - the Roof guardian of imperial architecture, Bodhi leaves from the flourishing Buddhist era and the iconic lotus pedestal of the 11th-14th centuries… recreating a mystical realm between reality and dream, past and present, where sacred dragons unite on the scarves of our time.

  • The Essence of The Dragon Dreams

"Dragon Dreams" print on silk scarves recreates the Ly Dynasty Dragon in a spiral composition converging toward the Lotus Throne. The border features pairs of Xi Van, ancient roof guardians protecting against fire, enclosing a mystical sky of swirling clouds, bodhi leaves, and lotus flowers. With graceful lines and harmonious colors, these scarves breathe new life into heritage, honoring Vietnamese culture on its journey to the world.

1. Mulberry Silk Products

1.1 Is silk environmentally friendly? How can I distinguish silk from other artificial silk fabrics?

Silk is a completely natural fiber with a production process that does not require the use of chemicals for bleaching or fiber processing. Therefore, silk is not only environmentally friendly but also gentle on the skin.

Distinguishing natural silk from synthetic silk fabrics can be based on various factors such as texture, surface effect, softness, light reflection, and how the fabric reacts to temperature. Among these, the "burn test" is the most effective and definitive method. Here are the characteristics of different materials when subjected to the burn test:

100% Silk

  • Burns quickly but extinguishes immediately.
  • Leaves ash that smells like burnt hair, crumbles easily, and does not stick to hands.

Silk blended with synthetic fibers

  • Melts rather than burns.
  • Leaves an unpleasant burnt plastic smell and ash that forms clumps and sticks to hands.

The materials used in Folk Form’s products are independently tested at the Textile Testing Center (TTC) under the Vietnam Textile Research Institute.

1.2 How can I use a silk scarf? Which size is suitable for me? How can I style my scarf?

Folk Form offers a variety of sizes for each pattern from 55x55cm to very large sizes such as 110x110cm to meet the diverse needs of customers. Depending on the needs of use, there are the following options:

Size 110x110

  • A large size that exudes elegance and sophistication. Can be worn around the neck for a refined look at formal events. Draped over the shoulders for warmth on autumn evenings or styled as a trendy lightweight jacket. This size can also be tied into a skirt, perfect for vacations or beach outings, adding a feminine and alluring touch.

Size 90x90

  • The most versatile size, suitable for almost all styling needs. Can be worn around the neck to enhance an outfit, tied as a stylish handbag accent, or used as a fashionable hair accessory. Additionally, it can be worn as a wrap skirt for beach trips.

Size 65x65

  • A compact size for those who love a light and delicate touch. Can be worn around the neck for a youthful look, used as a headband, or tied around the wrist as a unique, stylish accessory.

Size 55x55

  • The smallest size, ideal for adding a chic touch. Can be tied onto handbags, used as a simple yet standout hairband, or worn around the wrist as an elegant accessory.
1.3 Are the scarf patterns hand-drawn or digitally designed? How do they compare to other designs on the market?

The scarf patterns are digitally designed to be compatible with handmade screen printing on silk.

Compared to hand-drawn designs and other printing technologies, digitally designed patterns ensure sharp details and intricate elements. When combined with handmade screen printing, the final product features clear details, vibrant colors, and uniform quality on both sides of the fabric— a level of precision that most other printing methods cannot achieve.
